Joanna Mallard (Wood) (1969)

Thomas M. Wells, Chief Financial Officer of GEICO Corporation, died June 16, 2005 peacefully at home in Brookeville, Maryland after a long struggle with leukemia.  He graduated first in his 1969 high school class at Osbourn High School and first in his 1973 graduating class at VPI. The profession he chose was with financial figures. Mr. Wells was well known for his uncompromising integrity and his ability to analyze and resolve the most complex financial and accounting problems.  He was a key part of GEICO for 25 years.  In 1996, when GEICO was purchased by Berkshire Hathaway, the holding company managed by Warren Buffett, Mr. Wells was a key player on the GEICO team that successfully managed the merger.

Mr. Wells was an avid baseball fan and tennis player. He would often chuckle at the fact that his left-handed serve in doubles made him a formidable opponent.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Dargo Wells, his brother, Ron Wells, his sister, Jeanne Kane, his cousins, Sam Somers, John Somers and Janet Somers Joseph.
